Good Morning, RVA: East or west, Joaquin?

BY ROSS CATROW
Good morning, RVA! It’s 60 °F, and that’s where the temperature will stay this entire day. There’s a steady chance of rain, which meteorologists will probably ignore as they try to predict this weekend’s Weather of Doom (the governor has already declared a state of emergency). Hurricane Joaquin is making its way up the coast and trying to decide if it will crash into the East Coast, recalling Isabel in 2003, or turn harmlessly out into the Atlantic Ocean. If you’ve got weekend plans, keep your web browser pointed to the National Hurricane Center because it’s either going to be a wild couple of days or totally no big deal (FWIW, im leaning towards the latter).

Stone Brewing Co. news! It’s been so long! Ned Oliver reminds me that the brewery’s massive fermentation tanks are scheduled to float their way up the James River super soon. He also reminds me that there are in fact real-world consequences for the City still not having completed their 2014 Comprehensive Annual Financial Report. It seems like there might be some movement on getting the report done, but…it has seemed like that many times before. I think we should be on the lookout for more news from the City’s finance department next week.

Good Morning, RVA: Excellent weekend, dead ahead

BY ROSS CATROW

Good morning, RVA! It’s 60 °F, which, whoa, chilly. But that chill is short-lived as highs today kick back up into the upper-80s, possibly breaking into the 90s, and sunshine is the name of the game. Then, get ready for, like, four more days of exactly the same thing!

Good Morning, RVA: Bundle up

BY ROSS CATROW
Good morning, RVA! It’s 30 °F, and that’s cold–cold enough that destinations west of here could see flurries this morning. In Richmond, we’ll see plenty of scarves, boots, gloves, and clouds through to the afternoon as things heat up to the upper-40s. Tomorrow and Thursday the highs will hover around 30 °F, and that makes me sad/freezing.

Good Morning, RVA: Friday, I'm in love

Good morning, RVA! It's currently 50°F with today's high expected to reach 70°F with nary a chance of rain.

The weekend looks pretty dang immaculate as October goes. Highs should top off around the low 70s with ample sunshine on both Saturday and Sunday. This may be one of the few jacket-optional  weekends we have left this year before winter arrives. Use it wisely.

Good morning, RVA! It's 63 °F, and it is Friday. It figures to be a cloudy Friday with a small and persistent chance of rain, but a Friday nonetheless.

Good morning, RVA! It's 71 °F, today's highs will hit the mid-90s, and there's absolutely no chance of rain. In fact, the last time we saw more than just a trace of rain was way back on June 21st. That's fine, just more time to get used to the humidity.

The RTD has an editorial supporting hemp farming in Virginia to go along with a longer piece on the subject from the Roanoke Times . Virginia Delegate Joseph Yost hopes to introduce legislation in the General Assembly later this month to legalize growing hemp for "research purposes." Further changes in federal law would be required to grow hemp commercially.

The Richmond Fire Department battled a fire in the Burger King at 4800 W. Broad Street . No injuries, to either humans or the Cookout next door, have been reported.

Good Morning, RVA: You can cry if you want to

                        Good morning, RVA! It's 78 °F. As

weatherunderground.com tells me, in an unnecessarily passive aggressive tone, today's forecast is nearly the same as yesterday's: blazing hot, sticky humid, and a slight chance of storms in the afternoon.

There is a tropical storm working it's way up the coast, but, for now, it looks like the impact on RVA and our 4th of July celebrations will be minimal. Definitely worth keeping an eye on, though.
